Search returns no results after upgrading from a very old version. The ost__search table is missing.

The ost__search table was missing from the upgraded database -- this can happen when upgrading from very old versions that predate the search index table. Create the table from a same-version reference installation, then run the cron job multiple times to rebuild the search index.
